The song by the well known southern group Lynyrd Skynrd "Devil In The Bottle" is actually about a drinking problem that one of the band mates had. In the song it is sung that he would throw the bottle against the wall freeing him. This means that he will overcome his addiction to alcohol.

The part about him selling his soul before god and everyone means that he would become a different person in front everyone and as it says in the song he would only hurt the ones he loves which would be all of his fans his band mates and family.

In the end he overcomes the alcoholism
