CMIS

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Common Management Information Service (CMIS) is part of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) body of network standards.

Information services are used by peer processes to exchange information and commands for the purpose of network management. CMIS defines a message set (GET, CANCEL-GET, SET, CREATE, DELETE, EVENT-REPORT and ACTION), and the structure and content of the messages such that they might be used by "open" systems. In concept, it is similar to SNMP, but more powerful (and hence more complex).

The protocol implementing the CMIS message set is known as the Common Management Interface Protocol (CMIP). Note the term CMIP is sometimes used erroneously instead of the correct term CMIS.

CMIS is defined by standard ISO/IEC 9595.

C.M.I.S. also stands for the Corrections Management Information System. CMIS is used as the primary database for information on inmates in the provincial correctional system in the Province of Saskatchewan, Canada.
