[edit] History

In 1963, Stuart Davidson opened Clyde's of Georgetown. Georgetown University student John Laytham, a busboy at Clyde's, became Davidson's partner. In 1970, Davidson and Laytham purchased the Old Ebbitt Grill, which originally opened in 1856. The current Old Ebbitt Grill, however, is located in a different building because the original structure was torn down.

The Clyde's locations in Chevy Chase, Georgetown, and Tysons Corner are three of the older, more upscale Clyde's Restaurants, catering to a more affluent clientèle. Recently renovated in 2005, the Clyde's of Chevy Chase is located in the Chevy Chase Collection, nick named to the "Rodeo Drive of the East Coast" due to its concentration of high-end luxury stores.
