Club Helsinki
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Club Helsinki is an intimate music venue located in The Berkshires of Western Massachusetts. Located in the center of the town of Great Barrington, the club presents national touring acts in many genres.
An offshoot of the popular Helsinki Cafe, the club was opened in November of 1999 next door to the cafe. With a capacity of well under 100 and a small 10 inch high stage, Helsinki has become known for presenting top level performers in a very intimate space.
Helsinki has hosted artists like Burning Spear, Mike Gordon, Leo Kottke, Shawn Colvin, Chris Smither, Buckwheat Zydeco, The Slip, Shemekia Copeland, Jane Bunnett & The Spirits of Havana, Mose Allison, Tom Rush, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and many many more. Michelle Shocked played the club twice, driving through a blizzard to play her second show to fewer than 10 people, who all got their money back. Nora Jones played Helsinki before she hit the big time. Groove players John Medeski and Chris Wood of Medeski Martin and Wood played the Club's weekly open mic. And, jam favorites, The Slip recorded their album Aliveacoustic at Club Helsinki.
