After having obtained the first championship of National League, Club Deportivo Platense, had to wait 36 years to win its second championship. The new format of short tournaments (opening – closure) disputed through semifinals, allowed Platense to dispute the championship; even though it finished second on the final standings. The title was to be fought out, in a series of two games against the most popular team of the country: Club Deportivo Olimpia. The first game disputed in Puerto Cortes, finished with triumph for the 'Tiburón' by scoreboard of 1-0; with goal netted by the Argentine Marcelo Verón. The return game, was won by Club Olimpia by the same scoreboard.- This forced the teams to go to over-time. The champion would be the team that scored the first goal (Golden Goal). It was this way, how, with goal of Rony Morales, Club Platense conquered its second championship of National League; to win the global series by scoreboard of 2-1
