[edit] History

The team began on June 12, 1912, when the club was founded by Héctor Pineda Ugarte, Carlos Bram, Arturo Bram, Enrique Buk, Santiago Buik, Miguel Sanchez, Samuel Inestrosa Gómez, and Ramón Field. Originally, the team was called Olimpia National and was exclusively a baseball club; however, in 1924, it also became a football team. The club was named by Santiago Chavarria, after the 1896 Athens Olympic games. Up to this date, Olimpia is known as the cupchampion since is by far the team that has won the most official tournaments in the professional league (20) and the most representative team on international competitions.

Olimpia won its first national championship in September of 1928.[citation needed] A national rivalry formed against the Club Marathon from San Pedro Sula. This rivalry between the two main Honduran cities of Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula still exists.

The white uniform Based on the ideal of purity and peace, the founders of Club Olimpia decided that the colors of the uniform would be always completely white; unfortunately, some allegations of corruption have tainted the club's reputation. Nonetheless, the allegations have not been confirmed by independent investigations. Recently, Olimpia became the second "tri-champs" of the Honduran league; however, despite playing a great season, their third consecutive championship was tainted by controversy when in a final game the referee (benigno pineda) did not call a penalty kick against Olimpia.

La Ultra Fiel(Ultra Faithful) is the club's official fan club. The group was the first of its kind in Honduras, and was formed in 1987. Initially its name was Barra Brava (Angry/Brave Supporters). However, in 1995, the group evolved into the "Ultra Fiel" thanks to the contribution of the Argentine goalkeeper Carlos Enrique Prono, who brought his experience with South American fan clubs.
