The variety of fabric is, From the left: evenweave cotton, velvet, printed cotton, calico, felt, satin, silk, hessian, polycotton. March 7,2007. This is the fabric used for the sari or also known as saree. the most common seen is the silk. Most saris have a flower, seashell, geometric, bird or any other animal design. A teenaged girl wears brightly colored trousers called salwars (sal-vars) and a long blouse called a chemise (ku-meez). A scarf is draped over the shoulder. If she is a Muslim, she drapes the veil around her head and in front of her face, modestly covering all but her eyes and forehead. The scarf is called a chonni. Little girls wear short dresses and brightly colored hair ribbons. All little girls of India may not be lucky enough to have such pretty dresses. An Indian woman wears elaborate jewelry on her hands and ears. She also wears a nose ring and a small dot on her forehead (called a Tika). She wears sandals or shoes on her feet.
