[edit] Summary

Haruka Shitow stands in a dreamscape of clocks, some broken and others moving at different speeds. Compare with the "soft watches" paintings by Salvador Dalí, e.g. The Persistence of Memory (1931), Soft Watches (1933), The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory (ca. 1952-1954), Soft Watch at the Moment of First Explosion (1954).

Source: Two frames from the opening sequence of RahXephon (DVD) joined with the GIMP.

Note: The still image does not show the entire scene, because of parallax layering. The join is at the standing clock near the middle.

[edit] Fair use for RahXephon

This image, Clocks wide.jpg, is being linked here; though the picture is subject to copyright I (GunnarRene) feel it is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:

  1. the article includes commentary of the picture shown
  2. the screenshot is presented in a resolution significantly lower than that of the original source * ;
  3. the frames appear in the standard opening sequence for the show (used on all but episode 1,4 and 26)
  4. it has no adverse effect upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

*: Size note: This image is stored as wider than the recommended 320x240 pixels, but it is not tall and has fewer pixels than the recommended size. (320x240=76800 and 412x185=76220). The size is also necessary to see the small watches lying on the ground.
