Clonroche

The village of Clonroche is situated in County Wexford, Ireland. It has a population of about 550 people. It is located approximately 15 kilometers from Enniscorthy and approximately 25 kilometers from New Ross. Clonroche is part of the parish of Cloughbawn; which is in the diocese of Ferns. Poulpeasty located 5 kilometers away is also included in the parish of Cloughbawn.

Cloughbawn in the Gaelic tongue means the white rock and is situated at the foot of the Blackstairs mountain. The village and surrounding townslands predominatley Poulpeasty Poll na Peiste (hole of the worm), Castleboro,Ballyboro, Raththurten, Tomineraly, Meelgarrow, Raheen, and Rathfardon stretch from the borders of Adamstown to Rathnure parishes. .Clonroche is a busy little village with Jackie Greenes and Breda Larkin's local stores, John Judes and Paddy Doyles pubs and Joe Cartons electrical store. While the local Creamery provides services and products for the large agricultural community, Who produces potatoes, strawberries, cereals, dairy products and pumpkins. Clonroche is a popular location for boy racer events and the annual steam rally. The local hurling team are an excellent outfit and compete at senior level, most recently representing the club in the county final against local rivals Rathnure in 2002. The club is indeed home to many greats such as Tim Flood and son Sean, Larry Murphy, Thomas Harrington , Michael Kavanagh and Seamus Walsh.The local historian is the energetic Tom MacDonald. Tom is also the editor of the Clonroche notes for the Echo Newspaper. He can be seen frequently exercising his dog around the roads of Ballymackessey while dreaming up next weeks notes for the Echo!.Well done Tom.

Cloughbawn is also an area renowned for its local musicians namely Paddy Joyce & Tim Flood.
