The clone of the original Zero, or Clone Zero, is a video game character in the The King of Fighters series. He appears in The King of Fighters 2000 as the final boss.

[edit] History

Zero is one of the higher-ranked agents of "NESTS", a fictional organization that desired to take over the world. He is a clone of the Original Zero, who was higher ranked still. Due to his rank, Zero managed to become one of the most important men among the NESTS cartel, aiding them in their evil plans. A man who was purely devoted to the cartel, Zero was always loyal and faithful to his organization, and along with his fellow executive Igniz, carried NESTS to new heights as ordered by their wise leader. When their plan for world conquest was set in motion, Zero was commanded to watch over the performance of the Kusanagi cloning process, set forth by one of their lower ranked officers, Krizalid.

Zero began his true work when the Krizalid project had begun. Acting as the project supervisor, he was to monitor all actions done by Krizalid, and also analyze the performance of K', who was a human being infused with Kusanagi power.

In the King of Fighters 2000 tournament, Zero was sent in to impersonate Ling, a military commander and close friend to Heidern. One year before that, Zero began the construction of massive weapon named the "Zero cannons", destructive satellites that would orbit the Earth in outer space, and were able to fire at any designated spot on the planet. But he planned to use NESTS' own deadly weapon for his own devious purposes. However, this type of destructive energy needed an equally powerful energy source. Using the same technology that was used for Krizalid's battle armor, Zero constructed a power generator that would be able to absorb the fighting energy of any human being.

But NESTS had also moved to defend against the threat of the Zero cannons. After sending the "anti-K'" Kula to stop Zero's plans, NESTS planed to erase any trace of the situation in Southtown. Meanwhile, as the tournament advances under the happy gesture of Zero, the final battle in Southtown comes closer. After Heidern realizes that things aren't going as planned, Zero puts the final part of his plan into motion. He captures Heidern using his soldiers, which posed as Ling's soldiers, to stop Heidern from any further interference. Now, Zero prepares himself for the final match in a temple located behind an abandoned factory in the industrial zone of Southtown.

In the end, the various fighters that participated in the King of Fighters 2000 stopped the multiple Zero cannons about the planet, and the Zero clone himself was killed by Foxy and her companion, Diana.

[edit] Trivia

  • Zero's move, where he turns his back on an opponent and has his cloak hit him is often called the "Zero fart move". A joke about it appeared also in one of the four-panel KOF joke strips (known in the net as jests).
