Clonaslee

Clonaslee is a picturesque and well maintained village at the foothills of the Slieve Bloom Mountains in County Laois, Ireland, located about 70 miles from Dublin. It's name in Irish, "Cluain Na Sli" translates as "Meadow by the Way". The way referred to was an important route to the clans of Ireland long ago.

Some local attractions include:- Brittas Lake, Brittas Castle (which is currently being renovated by a private owner), Slieve Bloom Forest Park, and many forest walks with some beautiful scenery. Clonaslee is close to the towns of Portlaoise and Tullamore.

Mountmellick, the closest town has recently been provided broadband internet by eircom, but it is not yet available in Clonaslee.

The red areas seen in the satellite image below are 'Peat Bogs', the areas where peat briquettes are produced for solid fuel fires in the home.
