Clive Richard Luke Clarke (born January 14, 1980 in Dublin) is an Irish professional football player.
Clarke, a left back, is the second youngest of a family containing eight children. He started playing football with local club Newtown Schoolboys in his home town of Newtownmountkennedy, Co. Wicklow.
As well as his favoured position of left back, Clarke can also operate as a centre back, left midfielder, or a centre midfielder.
Clarke signed for Stoke City on August 1, 1996 and spent nine years at the club before moving to Premiership side West Ham United.
He signed to West Ham for a fee of £275,000 at the end of July 2005, brought to the East London club by manager Alan Pardew to provide cover for the first choice Paul Konchesky. He made 2 Premiership and 1 FA Cup appearance for the club, making his Premiership debut in a 3-2 win against Arsenal (the last time the two clubs would ever meet again at Highbury). He failed to hold a regular place in the first team and moved to Sunderland, in a deal that saw George McCartney move to Upton Park.
On October 23, 2006, he joined Coventry City on loan. A successful loan spell with the Sky Blues saw him return to Sunderland and come through several reserve fixtures, however he has since struggled to break into the first team.
