Clint Newsom (b. 4 August 1979 in El Paso, Texas, U.S.A) has played guitar and sang in bands such as the The Fall on Deaf Ears, The Hades Kick, and Rhythm of Black Lines and currently his solo incarnation Reflections. Starting off in El Paso playing with future Rhythm of Black Lines member, Kiki Solis in a number of garage bands that never materialized, he eventually met Laura Beard of The Glitter Girls and Rope. They formed The Fall on Deaf Ears with Cedric Bixler and Sarah Reiser. The band was curtailed by the tragic deaths of Laura and Sarah in a car accident in the spring of 1997. Clint then reunited with Solis to form a band called Ex-Impetus with future Sparta bassist Matt Miller. The group released one split 7'' with the band Egon. The group played shows with bands such as Thrones, Boys Life, and ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead.
Clint moved to Austin, Texas to attend the University of Texas, and formed The Hades Kick with Kenny Hopper, (ex At the Drive-In bassist and current member of San Francisco's Crime In Choir), guitarist Jason Ladewig and drummer Tim O'Neil. The band played numerous shows in Austin and went on one tour of the Eastern United States. They Released one 7" and a full length record titled "Ate'" both on Thick as Thieves records owned by photographer Peter Beste and current Vietnam drummer Michael Foss.
Clint and Solis reunited yet again to form Rhythm of Black Lines with Tim O'Neil and guitarist, bassist Paul Newman (from the band of the same name). The group released one self-titled EP and toured the Western United States with Paul on guitar. They went on to record Set a Summary Table as a three piece as well as a split 12" record with the Milwaukee band Pele. This was probably the period of the band's greatest activity, touring the U.S. extensively. The group played with the UK's Broadcast, Chicago's HIM, Five Style, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, and tours with At the Drive-In and The Album Leaf. The group acquired a fourth member in Omar Chavez, member of Austin's Adolfo's Reversal.
Rhythm of Black Lines then recorded their last record Human Hand Animal Band for Gold Standard Laboratories which was released in May of 2004. Soon after the band played their last show with The Fall the same month. Clint then travelled to India and the Northern Arizona Indian reservations and found interest in anthropology.
During the summer of 2005 he played numerous shows under the moniker Reflections with his friend Dave Bryant otherwise known as Diamond Caverns. The duo played a number of dates including a special show at the Artspace Contemporary Texas Art Foundation for an installation by renown artist Hills Snider.
In the same year, Clint finished a solo record with producer Jason Ward, which has circulated in an unofficial format. The record included the talents of Ellen Bunch, Eben English of the band del rey, and numerous others who contributed ideas and voices to the final product.
It was recently confirmed that the record will be released on Jim Ward of Sparta's label. [1]
He currently lives in London, UK attending graduate school.
