Climatrol
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Climatrol is the name of the Climate Control Center on the planet Motavia in the Phantasy Star II computer role-playing game. Constructed by Mother Brain in AW 852, Climatrol controls the planet's weather, irrigation and dam systems. Commands for Algol's climate control systems originate from the artificial satellite Zelan, which sends them to the satellite Kuran, where they are processed and sent to the other systems, including Climatrol.

[edit] History
Prior to the construction of Climatrol, Motavia was a harsh planet dominated by barren deserts. Because of its hostile environment, the planet was not suitable for Palman occupation and was inhabited only by the indigenous Motavians.
Mother Brain changed this with the construction of Climatrol in AW 852. Extensive irrigation was conducted and by AW 1284, the planet was green and water was abundant. In less than four hundred years, the planet was transformed from a desert into what was known as Algol's "shining gem."
This environmental improvement came to an end with the destruction of the Climate Control Center (Climatrol) by Rolf Landale in AW 1284. This almost caused the planet's four dams to flood, but a catastrophe was avoided by opening the dams. However, by AW 2284, most of the planet's land had reverted back to desert; only mountains and a few small lakes and oases broke up the land.
[edit] Location and layout
At the time of its destruction in AW 1284, Climatrol was located under the surface of Motavia's ocean, due south of Uzo Island. The main complex could only be reached via an underwater passage, which required Rolf Landale and his allies to use Maruera gum. After exiting the passage, one would be on the topmost of eight floors. The control systems could only be accessed from the lowest level of the complex, which was guarded by the biomonster/numan Neifirst.
[edit] Phantasy Star IV
On Dezoris, there is another Climate Control Centre. It is an optional dungeon containing items and a boss to fight. If visited, the party investigate the facility to see what is the cause of the vicious snow storm encaped all over Dezoris. They discover nothing is wrong, if Raja is in the party he will reassure the party that the Garuberk Tower is the cause of the problem.
[edit] Trivia
- In the Japanese version of Phantasy Star II, Climatrol is known as "Amedasu" (written in Katakana) which means "Rainmaker" or "Rainbringer." Actually, アメダス means AMeDAS: Automated Meteorological Data Acquisition System. The acronym is a pun.
