Clifton, City of York

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clifton is a suburb of the unitary authority of the City of York, in the north of England. It lies on the A19, one of the main routes north out of York. St. Peter's School (said to have been founded in the 7th Century, and one of the oldest schools in Europe) was originally the school attached to York Minster. The old village area was made a Conservation Area in 1968.

Clifton also contains council estates and terraced properties not visible from the main road. It is the home of York City Football Club.
