Cleveland College of Art & Design is a further and higher education art and design college, based in the North East of England. The college draws its name from that of the former non-metropolitan county of Cleveland, operational from 1974 to 1996.

[edit] History & Estates

The college spans three campuses: two in Linthorpe, Middlesbrough (in the borough of Middlesbrough) and another in Church Square, Hartlepool (in the borough of Hartlepool).

Middlesbrough School of Art, on Durham Street, and the nearby Government School of Arts in the Athenaeum on Church Street, West Hartlepool each first opened in 1870 and 1874 respectively. The college has ran continuously in its present Hartlepool spot since 1938, while the Linthorpe locations, at Green Lane and in the former Burlam Road Industrial School date from 1960 and 1966 respectively.

Its BA (Hons) and FdA degrees, covering such subjects as fine art, photography, theatre design and fashion, are validated by the University of Teesside, while a welter of corresponding and specialised Diplomas in Design exist in the further education field.

The college's present principal is David Willshaw.
