Cledus Maggard was a one-hit wonder who scored a hit single in 1976 with "The White Knight", which charted on both the Billboard magazine pop and country charts. "The White Knight" was a novelty song based on the popularity of citizens band radio. In the song, a "smokey" (highway patrolman) pretending to be a truck driver with the handle White Knight, uses the CB to broadcast misleading traffic information to drivers who he then pulls over for violating the speed limit.
