What sources are there that prove the version of classical gas often credited to clapton is actually performed by Knopfler? I dont doubt it, i just want to make sure this is correct. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.210.208.89 (talk • contribs).

I have doubts that there is actually a Knopfler version out there. The version I've heard that is often credited to Clapton is actually the original by Mason Williams. Furthermore, I can't find any sources that mention a Knopfler recording, much less one that was somehow leaked and is now available on filesharing networks. -Big Smooth 23:22, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
Upon further review, I removed the reference to Knopfler. It's just not verified per Wikipedia policy, and was added by User:60.240.64.49 in his/her sole edit to Wikipedia so it could easily be wrong or a hoax. -Big Smooth 23:29, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

I personally think the filesharing networks comment is a little amateur for an encyclopedia. It's nothing to do with the history of the song, and it is information relevant only to those in that culture. Most likely written by one of them. Tilgrieog 12:24, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

I agree and have blown the fluff away. Candy 12:01, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
911tabs.com lists 59 tabs of Classical Gas under Clapton's name, more than anyone else(Mason shows 11). A search of any large guitar forum will turn up many references to Clapton's version of the song. It isn't limited to filesharers, though it certainly started there. Fean 06:30, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
