Claudia is a feminine given name. It is a variant of the masculine Claude, which in turn has its origin in the Roman Claudius, which was the name of the gens Claudia. The meaning of the name Claudia is "lame", probably in reference to a physical affliction of an ancestor of Emperor Claudius and his family (see Claudius (gens).)

The name Claudia is one of the ten most popular female names in many Spanish-speaking countries and regions, and tends to fall within the top 200 female names in the United States each year. Variations of the name Claudia include Klaudia, Claudine, Claudette, Claudie, and Gladys. Claudia was also #9 on Spain's top 10 female baby names in 2005.
