Claude Giroux (born January 12, 1988 in Hearst, Ontario) is a Major Junior ice hockey right wing who currently plays for the Gatineau Olympiques of the QMJHL. He was recently drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. Giroux will never forget the draft day because Philadelphia general manager Bobby Clarke forgot his name when he was introducing him.

[edit] Playing career
Giroux was part of the Hearst Lumber Kings Minor hockey team until major peewee. Claude Giroux then moved to Orleans, Ontario and was a standout player with the Cumberland Barons (ODMHL) becoming an impact player instantly, putting up great numbers.
Claude started his professional career by signing with the Gatineau Olympiques as a free agent after playing in the Central Jr. A League. During his rookie season, he scored 39 goals for a total of 103 points in only 69 games. He then entered the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, and was chosen 22nd overall by the Philadelphia Flyers. He is expected to return to the Gatineau Olympiques for another season or two before being signed by the Flyers.
During the 2006-07 QMJHL season, Giroux became the first player to reach fifty points, taking only 22 games[1].
Giroux also plays in an Ottawa based Roller Hockey League in his spare time, called the National Capital Inline Hockey League. In just seven games, Giroux scored 24G, 14A, and 38PTS.
