Classic Arts Showcase

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Classic Arts Showcase is a 24-hour noncommercial satellite channel broadcasting a mix of various classic arts including animation, architectural art, ballet, chamber and choral music, dance, folk art, museum art, musical theater, opera, orchestral, recital, solo instrumental, solo vocal, and theatrical performances, as well as classic film and archival documentaries.

An 8-hour mix of video clips is prepared weekly and broadcast in random order three times daily. Although the service is available on Dish Network, most of its viewership is through small local Public, Educational, and Government Access (PEG) cable channels.

The station displays text on the screen encouraging viewers "... to go out and feast from the buffet of arts available in your community.".

CAS was founded in 1994, is completely and totally funded by the Lloyd E. Rigler - Lawrence E. Deutsch Foundation, and does not solicit any outside funding. Lloyd Rigler died on 7 December 2003, but left at least twenty years of funding to the channel. They offer free programming to any cable system that requests a feed.
