Clam is a small, quirky Albino Pygmy rhino who got his knowledge (as well as the items in his Jelly Bean cabin space) from cereal box tops. He appears to be the shortest Bean Scout.

Though seemingly unintelligent, Clam is actually a musical and academic genius and is often misunderstood by others, including Lumpus. He almost became famous by being a genius, but purposely made himself look like a fool during an opportunity to show himself as one on national TV in order to stay with his friends: Lazlo and Raj.

Always a protective friend, Clam loves thrill-seeking and eating cereal, especially the kinds with prizes in the boxes. He has a low voice and speaks in short "sentences" that almost never exceed three or four words at a time (as in " fair share" in:"Where's Clam"). His longest line in the show was probably "Not on the list whatever's up there." as said in "The Nothing Club. Or "Yeah, I guess he's a little weird," from (the movie Where's Lazlo.) However, he often repeats the last word Lazlo or Raj says (One example: "Where it seems to go on to oblivion," Clam says, "OBLIVION!"). His intelligence is demonstrated several times during the show; for example, in "Beans In Toyland", he made Lumpus' hairdryer into a remote-controlled airplane. He is interested in being a bathroom attendant, as revealed in "The Nothing Club". Based on some of the above tendencies and behaviors, it would seem that Clam is at least mildly autistic, or possibly has echolalia, though this is never really explored in the show (mental disorders are usually not discussed on children's shows).

Clam seems to have immense strength, comparable to Ed's from Ed, Edd n Eddy. He has done improbable things such as walking on walls, and hanging on to avoid falling into a river with one toe only (for a limited time). Clam is also a mechanical genius, having created a car out of wood, a hairdryer into an airplane, and other things. Clam's strength is demonstrated in many episodes, but the greatest example of his strength is being able to play catch with himself with a gigantic boulder, and able to reduce it to gravel with his bare hands. Other examples are carrying a tree, carrying a bag a well 3 times over his size that took Raj and Lazlo a great deal of stress to lift, and seems to have great endurance, never have being tired in the show. Although Clam lost to Gretchen in tug-of-war shown in "Love Sick," they met again. In the second time (necktie-to-necktie actually), Clam won.

Of the three Jellies, Clam tends to serve as a medium between Raj's overcautiousness and Lazlo's love of thrillseeking, generally preferring to ally with Lazlo; this may have to do with the fact that he had an enduring grudge against Raj initally due to Raj mistaking him for a baggage boy on their arrivial to Camp Kidney and making him stay on the bus roof for much of the ride there.
