Actor who appeared in film from 1908 to 1945, making at least one film every year in that period, and in some years, possibly 20, especially when silent films were very short.
She was born November 2, 1877 in New York City, and died on October 23, 1966, in Hollywood.
She was married to Charles Hill Mailes, an actor with 290 films to his credit. McDowell herself had 359 credits. They had 2 sons, Robert and Eugene.
Both McDowell and her husband worked for the great silent film director D.W. Griffith.
She is also sometimes credited as either Doris Carlton or Claire McDowell.
