From where does this term originate? Where is the term common?

It's a geographical term. If you ask about the origin to include it in the article, pass. I'm not sure whether D. Massey came up with the term or borrowed it from elsewhere. It's all about modern conceptions of cities. diwiki 22:44, 12 Sep 2003 (UTC)
