Citizens of Humanity

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Citizens of Humanity is a designer denim manufacturer based in Huntington Park, California, that was founded by the makers of 7 For All Mankind. A portion of all Citizens of Humanity sales are donated to Conservation International [1].

[edit] History

Michael Glasser and Jerome Dahan started the 7 for All Mankind brand in early 2000, and brought in Peter Koral of L'Koral for financial backing. Focusing on women's denim bottoms, the company enjoyed strong success.

However, in December 2002, Dahan and Glasser left 7 for All Mankind and engaged in a legal battle with Koral. They filed suit against Koral for fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of oral contract in the California Supreme Court in Los Angeles.[1] As the battle dragged on, Glasser and Dahan finally launched Citizens of Humanity in 2003.[2]

On February 1, 2006, Citizens of Humanity announced a partnership with Berkshire Partners, which will support the continued growth and expansion of Citizens of Humanity [2].

[edit] Apparel

Citizens of Humanity sells both mens' and womens' jeans, and womens' skirts as well. Their jeans are marked with a signature twisted "h" on their back pockets.

Citizens of Humanity's jeans are noted for their universal fit. Unlike other designer brands, the Humanity waistband is not contoured, making it much more accomodating. Some jeans are stretch (2%) but most remain rigid (100% cotton) [3]. Overall, Humanity jeans are clean, simple, and basic.
