Cisco Security Manager

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cisco Security Manager (sometimes called Security Manager) is a software application that enables you to configure the security policies on your Cisco Systems hardware devices, including intrusion prevention appliances and firewalls.

CSM is Cisco's solution for central management of policies and object groups, allowing for tighter control and simpler management. Those familiar with Check Point firewall architecture will see many similarities between its separation of management server and enforcement points and Cisco Security Manager. It brings a similar style of management to PIX and ASA firewalls as well as router and VPN platforms.

CSM allows for a workflow-based management. This role-based access control can separate responsibilities for policy modification, change approval, and deployment. These checks and balances are sometimes required for certain industry certifications.

Cisco Security Management Suite consists of both Cisco Security Manager as well as Cisco Security Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Solution (CS-MARS) leveraging each other's functionalities together.
