Circle of Birds is a collaborative effort, involving the instrumental rock group Unwed Sailor, Ester Drang, and country band Lasso. Although, at the time of its recording, the three bands were located in rather distant parts of the United States, some of their members had become friends when they were all originally located in various parts of Oklahoma. The album was recorded within 48 hours, with a fair amount of its music drawn from improvisation. It was mixed by Pedro the Lion's David Bazan and Unwed Sailor's Johnathon Ford.
