Circle Takes the Square (often abbreviated CTTS) is a screamo band from Savannah, Georgia, USA. The band formed in 2000 as a four piece, however after their first two releases they lost a guitarist which they replaced in late 2004. According to a news letter on their official website, dated January 18, 2007, they've once again lost a band member and are for the moment looking for someone to replace Jay Wynne on drums.
The band's style is characterized by loud screaming of both male and female vocals that often function in a kind of call and response and chaotic drumming coupled with intense, highly technical bass/guitar work. Highly diverse song structures (from meditative, droning intros to crushing choruses) have also assisted in carving their unique niche. Many people describe their songs as 'epic,' because of their length (the longest is 9.5 minutes) and also because they change so gradually, starting slow moving into chaotic and lightning-fast.
Their debut release was a 7-track Self-Titled EP in 2001, followed later by a 7" split with pg.99. In 2004 the band released As the Roots Undo on Robotic Empire/HyperRealist Records.
[edit] Band Lifestyle
The band is known for their members' vegetarian lifestyles. In an update of their webpage on April 25, 2006, they announced that, "we are nominated on peta2.com's contest for the sexiest vegetarians of 2006! As you all know we are very very sexy vegetarians/vegans/raw foodists."
