After fronting various rock bands, and being featured in musicals and operas, BMI recording artist, Cindy Nelson burst on the airways a few years back with the hit, “Sincere Dedication”. The Sons of the Phoenix, a popular Phoenix, Arizona band, heard Cindy’s song and insisted on heading to the recording studio to record it with her. This resulted in her first EP, which included 3 other of her songs, which were picked up for airplay in California and Arizona. Upon hearing her music, Atlantic Records, interested in developing her as one of their artists, asked Cindy for more.
Instead of jumping into what could be a short run in a large company, Ms. Nelson decided to head back to the University to hone her skills. She graduated cum laude, in the top 10 of her class, from Sacramento State University, with a degree in Music, Major emphasis in voice.[citation needed] From there she established the very successful business, “Bach to Basics”, where she has trained budding singers for careers in music.[citation needed] One of her students was recently signed to a recording contract. Ms. Nelson has also been asked to write for performers who are working with people such as famous producer, David Foster.[citation needed]
At the beginning of the millennium, Cindy went back to the studio to record her “I C.A.N. d” CD, which also featured Northern California artists, such as guitarist, Steve Wall, from the Beer Dawgs; internationally known[citation needed] Davis singer/songwriter, Dave Nachmanoff; drummer, Gay Carwash, from Zippy; and the Marina Village Symphonic Band from El Dorado Hills. This CD was picked up by Tower Records’ distribution company, Bayside Entertainment, for national release.
The next year had Ms. Nelson working with Nashville Producer, Neal James (REM, Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson), and an all-star band. This included band leader Byrd Burton (Amazing Rhythm Aces, Nanci Griffith); bassist, Bob Babbitt (Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Alice Cooper, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Palmer, “American Idol”, etc.); Roy Orbison’s ex-keyboardist, Jim “Turbo” Kirby; Craig Krampf (The Motels, Steve Perry, Yes, Kim Carnes, Rod Stewart, Melissa Etheridge, and others) on drums and percussion; Dave Harrison ( Edwin McCain, Lost in America) on drums; and some of the hottest lead guitarists, including Darin Favorite, Joe Khoury and James Pennebaker. Many of those songs have been featured on TV shows, including Fox’s “Witchblade.” A video of her 9/11 song, “We're Not Falling from Grace” played at the Memorial Concerts in New York and Paris in 2002 and 2003.
In 2002, Cindy formed “Cindy Nelson and the C.A.N. Band”, and toured Northern California, promoting her music. This band included Floyd Kennedy, the drummer of the “Gypsy Kings”; Bill Peterson on Bass (from “Mirror Mirror”); heavy metal rock guitarist, “Rocker Bill” Dorrell (“Vengeance”), and Frankie Flame on lead guitar. Cindy Nelson and her C.A.N. Band played to enthusiastic packed crowds at venues such as The Boardwalk, Hard Rock Cafe, Marilyn’s, as well as San Francisco’s Broadway Studios, to name a few.
When Cindy was approached in 2005 to submit songs for the upcoming movie, “Running with Scissors”, she read the #1 best selling novel by Augusten Burroughs, wrote the song (which the music director of the film said “She has nailed this dead-on!”)[citation needed], went to Masterfonics Recording Studio in Nashville, with her all-star band, and recorded it in March of 2006. This song, along with the remastered “Hello” CD, was released for International Airplay in August of 2006, via Paul Loggins’, Loggins Promotions. Several of the top entertainment magazines have already rated 8 of these songs as Top 10 potential.[citation needed] In August of 2006, Cindy's song, "In Your Eyes", off her "Hello - ReMastered" CD, passed up Christina Aguilera and Daniel Powter's latest singles on the "Hot AC" charts.[citation needed] In October and November of 2006, her tune "Running With Scissors" landed in the Top 20 Charts Nationally.[citation needed] Cindy Nelson is also a primary partner in Triple Platinum Music Alliance, a national consortium of music business professionals.
