From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cinderella is a famous Filipino mellow band back in the 1970s. It rose to fame together with such bands like VST and Company, The Hotdogs and The Boyfriends. It is known to have performed "T.L. Ako Sa'yo" (locally means tulo-laway ako sa'yo and it's hard to translate in English). It made romantic classics such as "Bato sa Buhangin" (Stone on Sand), "Sa Aking Pag-iisa" (In my Solitary) and "Superstar ng Buhay Ko" (Superstar of my Life). They're also a band part of the Manila sound.

[edit] Members

The band recorded albums in Sunshine: The Manila Sound and Cinderella consisted of Cecile Colayco (lead vocals), Snafu Rigor (vocals and drums), Violy Estrellado (back-up vocals), Sunny Ilacad (keyboard), Bob Guzman (guitars and vocal back-up), Celso Llarina (rhythm guitar and vocal back-up), Gig Ilacad (bass guitar) and also Yolly Samson (vocals). Comedians and also pals Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon also composed songs for the band such as "Ang Boyfriend Kong Baduy".

[edit] Language

The band used Taglish lyrics in their songs. Using Taglish (words from both Tagalog and English languages mixed) and street lingo is popular in the 1970s. This lingo became the modern language of the Philippines especially in the urban zones.

In "T.L. Ako Sa'yo", they used the term "dehins" which means "hindi" or no. It is a street term of Tagalog by moving the word backwords and making it sound like it is Englush. The term "T.L" can mean "tulo-laway" or also "true love".

In "Ang Boyfriend kong Baduy", the title itself is a phrase mixed with English and Tagalog. The band also used both Tagalog and English in a lot of the song's lines: ...but when we go out dating na, kulay ng polo niya'y pula... ...but when the guests go dancing na, lagi pa syang nauuna... ...'di ko ma-take ang gusto. Siya ay in-na-in ngunit out pa rin...

The term boypren literally came from boyfriend. It is found in the song "Ang Boypren Ko" (My Boyfriend)

"Steady" also means boyfriend or girlfriend. Their song "Sana'y maging Steady Mo" means "I wish I could be your boyfriend/girlfriend".

Cinderella and VST and Company (Manila Sound bands) hits were blended with bossa nova and were recorded in Vicor Music Philippines. These albums were called "The Bossa Nova Experience" and were released in year 2006. The performers were Alejandro and Isabella. The hit T.L Ako Sa'yo was also remade by rock princess, Kitchie Nadal and it was included in the album Hopia Mani Popcorn.
