[edit] Board election

About your board election:

  1. Why does simply being acessible mean you are a link between the community and the board? Isn't being acessible kind of de rigeur, expected, par for the course?
I did not say I would simply be accessible. I said I would search out ways to bridge the divide. Simply being accessible is no longer good enough. I would not merely endeavour to be a link. The major task is to educate the communities (that is provide information in a format that gets through to the communities) about how the Wikimedia Foundation can help them (and hardly less about the ways that the Foundation is unlikely to effect their developement).
  2. Your proposals are kind of vague. It's nice to say that Wikipedia is a long term project but what does this actually mean, what will you try to influence the Board to do? Hard proposals and ideas are good: for instance, we have weekly freely distributed database dumps, but what measures could be taken to further archive our content and disseminate it?
(will answer this in breath and detail later, but well before application for candidateship closes)
  3. Your proposal is also vague on how we would work with EFF and Gutenberg; for instance, with Gutenberg an obvious idea is to try to merge Wikisource with Gutenberg. To put it simply, if you are on the board, how will you gome to tingle our deepest desires?
Merging Gutenberg and Wikisource in the immediate future is pure pie in the sky. The projects are too large and well developed, each with its own approach. What can and should be is increasing give and take between those projects, and coöperation in general. There are ongoing discussions over how to best facilitate that.
  4. What is your position on advertising and Wikimedia Foundation sponsored projects? This would seem to be a vital issue since en.wikipedia.org is now one of the most popular sites online, and most of the candidates seem to think that a major increase in funding is needed (and advertising is an obvious source)?
If any one of the candidates are representing that Wikimedia Foundation is desperate for cash (and I don't think any of them really do), that would be purest FUD. The question of advertising on wikipedia is not primarily an ideological one for me personally (I find that there is philantrophy funded by advertising, that is quite useful); but a pragmatic one. All reasonable post-game analysis of the mechanics of how Wikimedias funding has worked in the past, and modeling of the future (hugely expanding) opportunities to recieve money from people who like to give, points very strongly towards a view that advertising, far from being an obvious source of funding, is in clear fact counter-productive.

BTW, have you ever heard of archiving your talk page, not wikideleting it? --Rhwawn (talk to Rhwawn) 03:37, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

I have archived my talk page several times. The problem with that is that it either splits the histories, if you do the archiving by page move, or if done by pasteing, it is merely something that one could provide a permanent link in the page history. When I have nothing better to do, I will most likely merge the histories of all my talk-page archives, and provide permanent links to all of them at the top of my talk page. Have patience though, there are many things above that in my priorities. -- Cimon avaro; on a pogostick. 08:21, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chapter/board

What do you think of the relationship ? Do you see the relation as a federation type or a branch type ? (without or with legal ties). Do you think that chapters should have an authorization to use brand name and logo for deals (such as a DVD publishing) or should the Foundation handle this from a legal perspective ? What is your position in term of membership (should the Foundation have members or not ?). Anthere

PS: would you mind discussing these topics on meta with all editors rather than on the english wikipedia only ?

[edit] Username change

Hello, Cimon
I write here because my own name change request has an additional quirk that requires you attention and judgement. I had former asked User:Walter, but he has pointed out that since en.wiki has many bureaucrats, i've got to ask one of them. So, here I am.
When I arrived on Wikipedia, my Username wasn't the one that I wished (M/), but I remedied with M7 that is graphically similar. Unluckily, even this one was already taken on en.wiki, so I later registered M7it and asked the re-attribution for all the edits under my static IP address. Now, as the approaching SUL is to come, I've had a look at this and it appears that M7 has never contributed again since his registration date. Do you think that you can do a rename of M7 to M7- and then M7it as M7, or I've to wait until SUL comes? Thank you, M7it 20:50, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Future of projects

Hi! I tried to do chaos yesterday on spc IRC with that problem, (it was wrong time) :). I need help to open discuss about future of our projects. Here is my vision of development: meta:User:Przykuta/evolution of Projects. I'm sorry for misspelling :( I know that my English is not good. Przykuta 09:18, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Citation needed

About two months ago in the Tar article, you added:

"In archaic Finland tar was considered a panacea reputed to heal "even those cut in twain through their midriff"."

I checked both of the links cited in the article, and neither mentioned anything about Finland. Could you cite this? -NorsemanII 21:00, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Look, I'm not asking you to find a reference that supports the notion that tar could heal people who have been cut in half. I just want to know what book, webpage, or article says that tar was ever claimed to have had that property. -NorsemanII 03:53, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Faux

I considered it vandalism. Things like that are a dime a dozen on that article. It was the same thing when somebody switched "pop rock" to "pop", just somebody trying to get in a jab. I'm surprised you think it's acceptable. How can it be NPOV? Everyking 20:36, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Remember that the article only refers to punk-style shirt designs/logos, which makes the issue more narrow than clothing in general. Well, there really should be a cite regardless of description. But I think calling them punk-style designs is pretty straightforward and easier to justify under NPOV; "faux punk" is the kind of thing that I think would absolutely require a cite. Everyking 07:41, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
Yes, that's fine. Everyking 11:07, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] La Constance

I will tag the article under CSD; you have an option to warn the admins to hang on, but please do not remove the tag until an admin has considered your plea. Sr13 (T|C) 10:05, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lulu (chatterbot)

Welcome to Wikipedia! We could really use your help to create new content, but your recent additions do not assert the notability of their subjects and have been reverted or removed. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. -- Chris 73 | Talk 10:34, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AfD on Atlas of the Supernatual

An article that you have been involved in editing, Atlas of the Supernatural, has been listed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Atlas of the Supernatural. Please look there to see why this is, if you are interested in whether it should be deleted. Thank you. --Jobjörn (Talk ° contribs) 20:55, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sorry about the revert

Sorry about that.. I checked on google, and your edits were ok. It really did look like vandalism though, but I will try to be a little more careful in the future. Your use of edit summaries, in particular, should have cued me that your edits were legitimate for the subject and I should have checked the page history. Hope you enjoy editing wikipedia. [edit] Fuzzy Zoeller edit controversy

Hello, there. As you may or may not know, the Miami Herald recently revealed that professional golfer Fuzzy Zoeller has filed a lawsuit against Josef Silny & Associates, Inc. for adding false statements to his Wikipedia biography.

For data gathering purposes, an SRS of 20 administrators has been created, you being one of them. I would like you to comment on this situation and its possible implications to Wikipedia, the accused company, and the general welfare of the community in general. (To what extent will this impact Wikipedia? To what extent will this impact those who use Wikipedia often? To what extent is the company guilty? Who do you believe is at fault?) Feel free to comment however you wish. I ask that you email me your responses via my emailuser page so as to reduce bias in your responses. (Again, don't post your responses on my talk page.)

The following are articles from various news agencies that you may use to inform yourself about the situation: Miami Herald, Herald Tribune, Web Pro News, The Smoking Gun.

I thank you for taking your time to express your opinion. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at any time. Jaredtalk 18:22, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
