Cibolo Creek

The Cibolo Creek begins ten miles northwest of the town of Boerne in Southwestern Kendall County, Texas, and runs southeast for about 100 miles, forming the county line between Bexar County, Texas, Comal County, Texas, and Guadalupe County, Texas, and crosses Wilson County, Texas, to join the San Antonio River, about five miles Northwest of Karnes City, Texas, in Karnes County, Texas.

Cibolo Creek was called "Xoloton" by the early Coahuiltecan Indians of the area and "Bata Coniquiyoqui" by Tonkawa indians. During the expedition of the Marqués de San Miguel de Aguayo in 1721 the stream was named "Río Cibolo." In 1768 the Marqués de Rubí included Cibolo Creek in his list of potential sites for posts to solidify the Spanish hold on Texas. In the late 1840s and early 1850s the communities of Sutherland Springs, Cibolo, Schertz, Boerne, La Vernia, and Bulverde were established along the creek.
