Talk:Church of St. Mary Magdalene (Toronto)

Source for the page 230 Eucharist being developped at SMM? When I mentioned to my rector that I had read this, she snorted: "They say it was!" It could very well be true, but as with anything I would feel more comfortable with a citation. Carolynparrishfan 07:53, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 1962 BAS rite development....

Yes, that was Father Heron that introduced the experimental liturgies that preceded the BAS to the congregation and did some work on them. I'll have to dig around and see what I can find for a citation....

I've done a bit more digging. It was Fr. Fairweather, not Fr. Heron, that is the possible link between SMM and the "Toronto Rite." The basic sequence...

At least since the time of Fr. Hutt, SMM is using the "Anglican Missal" which has the Roman Rite ordering of the pieces of the Mass.

Someone, perhaps Fr. Fairweather, literally pastes in the pages of the Canadian BCP into the Anglican Missal. So now the prayers are following the BCP language and the Roman Rite ordering.

The Doctrine and Worship Committee of the Diocese of Toronto develops a "Blue Book" with the Toronto Rite, which essentially follows what SMM was doing (i.e. Roman ordering of BCP prayers). I still have to firmly establish the link between the Doctrine and Worship Committee and Fr. Fairweather, but I'm working on it.

Comments welcome....
