Chuvash Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic

The Chuvash Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was an Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in the former Soviet Union.

It occupied about 18,000 square kilometres along the east bank of the Volga River, about sixty kilometres west of the river's confluence with the Kama River and some 700 kilometres east of Moscow. The Chuvash ASSR was formed in 1925 and declared its sovereignty within the Soviet Union in 1990. The primary economic activities are agricultural; grain and fruit production and logging are emphasized. The capital city was Cheboksary.
