Churdhar sanctuary

Churdhar peak, with an elevation of 3647 metres above sea level is the highestpeak in outer himalayas.It is like a Oasis of Alpine area of temperate forests. Best time to visit is during summers and early winters. The view from Churdhar peak is un-paralled. Monals are common in the forest areas. Trekking can be done from Nohra, Sarain and Pulbahal.[1]

The total covered area of this sanctuary is 5616 hectares as notified on 15th November 1985. This is one of the newest sanctuaries of Himachal Pradesh. Fauna includes Himalayan Black Bear, Barking Deer, Musk Deer, Langur and leopards .

  • Airways: Jubbarhatti airport (23-km from Shimla)
  • Nearest Railhead: Shimla to Kalka narrow gauge railway line
  • The sanctuary has a well connected road network.[2]
