Chungnam National University is one of the most recognized major five national universities in Korea together with Seoul National University in Seoul, Pusan National University in Pusan, Kyungpook National University in Daegu, and Chonnam National University in Gwangju.^{[citation needed]} There are 18 thousands undergraduate students and 4 thousands graduate students. The faculty members are around 1,300.

The Chungnam National University was established for South Chungcheong province in 1952 during the Korean War.
