Chuck Whelon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chuck Whelon (born 1969) is the creator artist and co-writer of the webcomic Pewfell. Chuck was born and raised near the Basingstoke roundabout in England but now works for an advertising agency in the city of San Francisco where he lives with his wife and son. The comic strip in no way reflects their actual lives, and Gnoma is not based on their former next-door neighbor.

As an artist Chuck is mostly self trained, although he has taken a few courses here and there (mostly because he likes looking at naked people). He has also worked as a book illustrator and still does from time to time. Pewfell is the only major comic strip project he has attempted so far, although it has been refined and retooled a number of times since its first appearance in the early 1990s, appearing as a black & white zine-style comic book, on the web as daily newspaper-style strips, weekly half-page installments and a daily 6-panel flat color feature. The Pewfell archive now clocks in at over 900 strips and can be read in its entirety at both Modern Tales.com and Webcomics Nation.com.

Some of Chuck's influences for Pewfell include Popeye, Asterix, The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers and the books of Terry Pratchett.

He is the brother to Emily Jordan.
