Chuck LaMar

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Charles M. "Chuck" LaMar was the first General Manager of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays franchise in Major League Baseball, being hired July 19, 1995 -- several months after the Tampa Bay franchise was awarded. He had previously served as assistant general manager in the Atlanta Braves organization under John Schuerholz.

During the 8 seasons that LaMar oversaw the Devil Rays franchise, the team compiled a 518-777 record and only once won more than 70 games (2004).

LaMar's tenure was plagued with bad, nembrane moves such as trading Bobby Abreu and Dmitri Young and only receiving Kevin Stocker and Mike Kelly in return.

LaMar was fired on October 6, 2005 by incoming owner Stuart Sternberg in a large franchise shakeup.

LaMar has a son and two daughters.
