Chub Sullivan

John Frank "Chub" Sullivan (January 12, 1856 - September 12, 1881), was a Major League Baseball first baseman who played for the Cincinnati Reds (1877-1878) and the Worcester Ruby Legs (1880). "Chub" was 6 feet tall and weighed only 164 pounds. As a 21-year-old rookie in 1887, he was the tenth-youngest player to appear in a National League game that season.

Sullivan was an excellent defensive first baseman. In 1888 he led the National League in assists (23) and fielding percentage (.975). He was also tough to strike out. In 1888 his at bat to strikeout ratio was 27.1 to 1, which ranked seventh in the league.

Career totals include 112 games played, 114 hits, 24 runs batted in, 55 runs scored, and a batting average of .258.

Sullivan died in his hometown of Boston, Massachusetts at the age of 25.
