Chu Hai College of Higher Education (Traditional Chinese: 珠海學院) is a private degree-granting institute in Hong Kong. The college is best known for its journalism and Chinese history programmes.
[edit] History
The college was traced back to Chu Hai University (私立珠海大學) in Guangzhou of China in 1947. The private university was a group of prominent educators, financiers, and legislators. After Guangzhou was taken over by the Communist Party of China in 1949, the college was moved to Hong Kong. As Hong Kong Government only recognised the degree awarded by the University of Hong Kong, it thus renamed to Chu Hai College (珠海書院) from the restriction of regulation. In early days, it was registered in the Republic of China as Chu Hai University (珠海大學) and awarded degrees in Taipei. Thus the status was the same as other universities in Taiwan.
In 1990s, the college joined with other overseas universities to award their own degrees. In May 2004, the college was qualified for her programmes and in October was approved to awarded her own degree by Chief Executive of Hong Kong.
It was registered as an "Approved Post-secondary College" since July 2004, and was therefore renamed Chu Hai Post Secondary College, subsequently renamed Chu Hai College of Higher Education (珠海學院).
[edit] Campus
After moving to Hong Kong, it borrowed the building of (大同中學) in Mongkok as her campus. The secondary school was closed and the college was forced to move to Tsuen Wan.
