[edit] Map Error

Good morning. Don't know if you particularly care, but the map accredited to you on the River Thames page under 'Geography' then 'Source' is incorrect. The dot marked Southend is actually Grays/Tilbury area. Southend is actually almost twice as far from London as that, I'd suggest checking a map to confirm location.

[edit] Template:ScientologySeries

nuview (talk contribs) is on a crusade to remove large chunks of the template Template:ScientologySeries without consensus. I've partially reverted his removal of the "Celebrities" section (restored it as merely a link to the Scientology and celebrities page) and completely reverted his gutting of the "doctrine" section. This is over the last few days. Does any further action need to be taken? I'm nowhere near WP:3RR, but I hate using reverts to control editing. Thanks. --Davidstrauss 19:09, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks, Chris and other Wikipedia users and administrators, for having rewritten the article about OITC. It is indeed a fine job, and we have noticed there was research involved (some of the links did not appeared in the original article.) It is indeed much appreciated. 24.215.205.169 & everyone in our team of concerned citizens are grateful. --149.31.12.131

[edit] My first revert war!

I guess it's an embarassing thing that was bound to happen eventually. Anyway, 71.228.89.212 (talk contribs) removed the second paragraph from Aidan Delgado. I reverted. He did it again. I reverted again. Now, user Kaiser187 (talk contribs) has mysteriously come to the game to remove the very same paragraph. Considering that Kaiser187's only edit is to this article, I'm assuming it's the same guy, just with a fresh new username. The paragraph raises two important issues: the objections Delgado brought up and the story's lack of corroboration. I think it needs to be in the article, and I see Kaiser187's edits as vandalism. Thanks. --Davidstrauss 23:40, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

  • Sorry, I forgot to mention why I posted here. Could you temporarily protect the page from anonymous and new user edits? If I should take this request somewhere else, please inform me. Thanks. --Davidstrauss 06:47, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
It seems to have quietened down a bit, so I'll hold off on protecting it; but I'll do so if the revert war resumes. -- ChrisO 06:05, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Would the content of this page be considered a personal attack? User:Terryeo/subpage1
--Fahrenheit451 21:15, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
IMHO, even as Terryeo fails to assume good faith, his criticisms are not personal attacks, inasmuch as, though they tangentially impugn the editors about whom they are directed, they are primarily with respect to actions and Wiki-philosophies, as against with respect to belief. Were Terryeo to write ChrisO is a horrible person and a rude jerk, he'd surely be attacking ChrisO; here, though, to the extent that there's vituperation, it seems to be directed at how the editors whom he names edit and how there is, in his perception, an anti-Scientology culture here. Even as I surely don't apprehend the existence of such a culture, and even as I think Terryeo to be a tendetious (perhaps avolitionally) editor, I don't think a block pursuant to the RfAr should be sought here. We don't need to kick him whilst he's down, and, in any case, his page isn't disruptive; if he begins spamming talk pages with links to it, then surely something should be done. Just my thoughts, having happened upon this discussion after finding Terryeo's subpage; I hope you won't mind my insinuating myself into the discussion. Joe 04:03, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
I for one don't mind at all and find your comments to be an accurate statement of my intent of creating them. Terryeo 16:22, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ten Day War

Hi, I am Mickk, registered user, and have recently found out about wikipedia. However I came across article "Ten Day War", which I found to be a real distortion and twisting of facts, as well as an exagaration of what really happened in Slovenia. The page has been edit protected now, so I would like to know the reasons for this. I have many more facts and sources that were going to be added shortly and help us all in clearing up the facts in regard to this conflict.

Thanks

It doesn't seem to be protected anymore, but if you encounter this problem again, add your comments to the talk page. --Davidstrauss 09:16, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Narconon reversions

ChrisO, here is what the Merriam-Webster online dictionary says: Main Entry: ver·i·fy Pronunciation: 'ver-&-"fI Function: transitive verb Inflected Form(s): -fied; -fy·ing Etymology: Middle English verifien, from Middle French verifier, from Medieval Latin verificare, from Latin verus true 1 : to confirm or substantiate in law by oath 2 : to establish the truth, accuracy, or reality of synonym see CONFIRM - ver·i·fi·er /-"fI(-&)r/ noun

The Narconon program has nine steps, not two. See the official Narconon website to "confirm or substantiate" or "to establish the truth, accuracy, or reality of" this statement.

That being said, I am contacting you directly in accordance with Wikipedia dispute policy to see what objection you have to including all nine steps. dcottle561

Since I placed this comment on your page a few days ago and you have not replied, I will now make the correction I discussed to the Narconon article. If I have misinterpreted your silence, then we can use Wikipedia dispute resolution. dcottle561

[edit] Minefields in Croatia article

Thanks for an excellent work on the Minefields in Croatia article. It is very well written. EurowikiJ 23:22, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the comments, it looked like the article needed a bit of help! -- ChrisO 17:58, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi, I see you reinserted the sentence that was not made, after you acknowledged it on my talk page. Is it a mistake, or did you do it on purpose, and if so, why? An inpartial user can help a lot in disputes between Serbian and Croatian users, but for that we need an inpartial user in the first place. I hope it was a honest mistake on your part, not a proof of bad faith and bias. Serpen 00:49, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help

Hi ChrisO, I noticed you are an admin. Perhaps you could help with a POV-pusher over on the Adjara article. He continues to vandalize the page, removing the Adjarian flag and adding a nonsense to the article. I've done a lot to improve this article and I'm inclined to elevate it a good article status. Thanks in advance, Kober 14:09, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

I've blocked him for 24 hours for violating the 3 revert rule. I'll keep an eye on the article to see what he does when he gets back. -- ChrisO 21:15, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I agree

Thanks for removing the tag. Yes, you are right. I checked my watchlist and thought the tag was getting 'lost' during the recent edit warring. Regards, Asterion talk to me 19:52, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

By the way, can you keep an eye on the article and User:Ferick, as he insists on removing valid external links, with the collateral consequence of fuelling a possible edit war with c-c-c-c and borismalagurski, as it certainly looks like a whitewash. I have tried to get both parties to agree but this does not seem very feasible given the attitude shown. I do not want to place a Request for Comments unless there is a clear consensus on the need for it. Thanks, Asterion talk to me 21:19, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Great that you are taking the time to help in bringing neutrality to the users in Balkans related articles. You should know better, but blocking users preemptively might not be useful, but sometimes is necessary. Hope you'll continue your efforts there. ilir_pz 22:21, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm just rapping them over the knuckles to get their attention. :-) Please be aware, though, that I'm aggressively neutral (is that a contradiction?) towards everyone - so don't think that I'll favour one side over the other! Edit wars are bad, whoever does starts them, so please try to stay out of them. Let me know if you see one developing and I'll do what I can to sort it out. -- ChrisO 22:27, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
I try to be neutral as well, sometimes I go as far as not accepting sources cooked by any of the sides in the conflict but attempt to use neutral ones. Not expecting you to favour anyone. You would not be an administrator if you were doing tht. I will let you know should there be any indication of edit wars taking place. ilir_pz 22:40, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Care to look at the edits by this [3] and [4] user? I think they are the same, and a fast search shows that hte user with that IP is from Richmond, BC, CA. Am I supposed to revert the edits of this suspected sockpuppet of someone else? ilir_pz 23:16, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mir Harven vandalism and insults

Hi, I see you banned Bormalgurski for POV. Could you look at personal insults of Mir_Harven (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log) who keeps insulting serbs all time. He has warned several time and was banned for insults, but keeps insulting and removes references. Do you consider that also justifies to ban ? --Marija

Hmmm...interesting. Is this the case of "de te fabula narratur" ? Mir Harven 09:33, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know, I'll keep an eye on it. Having come across some of Mir Harven's edits in the past, I agree that he seems to be doing a fair amount of POV-pushing - I've already cleaned some of it up. -- ChrisO 17:12, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

POV-pushing? If you mean in topics about Croatia, Croats, Serbian aggression on Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina... I disagree. Only thing he was doing was correcting the misinterpretation. On the other hand, you should ask yourselves are you POV-ing by removing his edits. Kubura 07:59, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Insults? He may be sarcastic, maybe he used irony in his messages, but to say "he insults" is a heavy accusation. Among Croatian contributors, he's not being known as "trash talker" (otherwise, he'd have already been permanently blocked in Croatian wikipedia). So, please, tell us some examples... and where it happened, so we can know what brought him to that language. If you show us good example, we'll talk with him, to improve things. But understand him, war wounds are still fresh here, although the war has ended 11 years before. People haven't forgot, many will never forgive. It's not easy for many people to stay calm, after certain things being written. Kubura 07:59, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User Ferick

Hey, you blocked me recently, anyways, I mentioned that it would be a good idea to look at User: Ferick because he constantly deletes stuff on Kosovo related articles, even when referenced by reputable sources (Reuters, New York Times, etc.) You have warned him on this before, but he still continues. He claims I am putting up Serb propaganda at Kosovo Liberation Army, but he continuingly denies the crimes of the KLA. The KLA is responsible for many things in the Balkans, ((majority of drug business, human trafficking, buying of weapons, murders, rapes, and all of this can be found at reputable sources). However the edit I made only states "It played an important part in the Kosovo War of 1999, committing atrocities against the minority population of Kosovo, this being mainly the Serbs." This is about as pleasant a sentence you could make, and if I was accused of POV pushing then I could add all the above mentioned things but haven't. Please let the truth come out. Thanks. C-c-c-c

I have never deleted anything that has a reputable source such as Reuters and New York Times. You don't use sources like that. Busted! Remember, such sources are anti Serbian :)Ferick 21:05, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

User Ferick has now violated the 3RR, please take swift action. C-c-c-c 20:51, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

If you're referring to the edits on Kosovo Liberation Army, he's just under the threshold (more than 3 reverts in 24 hours). I've left a warning on his talk page. Thanks for letting me know. As for the intro para, I've reworded it to make it more neutral but retaining your point (which I think is an important one that needs to be mentioned, but in a more neutral way). -- ChrisO 20:57, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
I agree, thanks! C-c-c-c 21:02, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A sign?

I would encourage you to observe the time C-c-c-c, Bormalagurski and Krytan are active, and the documents they are active in (i.e. revert). Furthermore they are from the same country, and a recent investigation by an admin revealed significant similarities between the first two. This could be another indication that these alleged users could be actually one user. The abovementioned users are being involved in rever wars, and are disrespectful of Wikipedia rules, something they proved in the near past. Additionally, they have been blocked several times, sometimes even offending administrators that carried out that action. Furthermore, some of the "users" are recruiting meatpuppets to wage their revert war. Taking any action would be appreciated, for the sake of stopping revert-warriors and users that are sworn to work against Wikipedia. Best regards, ilir_pz 23:46, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

stop wiki-stalking me, cccccccc.ilir_pz 09:39, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

I guess this is how they prosecute people in Albania. Little evidence, loads of lies, and always a nationalist around somewhere. C-c-c-c 05:09, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Get a life Ilir, nobody cares enough to stalk you, and if you look above, I commentd before you ever did on this page, and I was awaiting a reply on Ferick. Go to hell Shipqtar. C-c-c-c 12:29, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Funny also how Ferick admits to ChrisO that he is willing to break Wikipedia rules just to get the Albanian nationalist POV across. The only similarities it revealed was that the IP I use, is in no way connected to Bormalagurski...quoting Essjay, "There does appear to be a non-involved editor (roommate?) utilizing the same IP as C-c-c-c, however that individual is not Bormalagurski.. This "non-involved editor", is actuallly, non-involved editors, are other people who share the same IP as me. For example, user milkman1042 shares my IP, and I don't know him. The numerous times I have been blocked is for being falsely accused of vandalism. Ilir_pz was recently blocked for violating the 3RR, on Kosovo related articles. I also hope you take a close look at all these Albanians out of Kosovo, many people are suspicious of them, and believe one or two people may be responsible for all the accounts.

Funny, between me, Krytan, and Bormalagurski, we speak 7 languages. Tough mandate even for Serbs. And obviously Boris is a real person, (look at his website by that name, where he's won awards in Film Festivals). Fortunately I'm not "famous", but you know, and I'm not sure I can speak for Kyrtan here. But anyways, try proving we're the same person. Good luck.:)))) C-c-c-c 05:27, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

ChrisO, some time ago you asked me to report to you if I notice any revert warrior that vandalizes articles. I encourage you to look at several edits from User:C-c-c-c, and you can notice that this user reverts legitimate edits, backed with sources, by leaving comments of the sort "nazi" "rv crap" etc. Please take some action against this sworn vandal. Regards, ilir_pz 21:15, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Shut up Ilir. And stop wiki stalking me. Sworn vandal? No, that would be Ferick, who admitted that he'd do anything to disrupt Wikipedia, crazy Albanians. ChrisO, take a peak at Kosovo Liberation Army, and look at Ferick and please see to it that you end his minimization of the roles Albanian KLA thugs played, even when found guilty by courts. Thanks C-c-c-c 21:18, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sockpuppeting in Kosovo, the biggest threat since the KLA

Distances between Vancouver and Winnipeg, Canada and Winnipeg to Toronto, Canada
Distances between Vancouver and Winnipeg, Canada and Winnipeg to Toronto, Canada

For anyone unfamiliar where and what Canada is, it's the second largest country in the world, and we lie right above our great neighbours, the Americans....:(

User Bormalagurski lives in Vancouver. I, user C-c-c-c live in Winnipeg, and user Krytan lives in Brampton (greater Toronto area, and too small to show up on map covering this vast an area). And accused of sockpuppeting we are, funny, isn't it, that that god forsaken land called Kosovo is about size of...Connecticut? Funny, they have eleven users from a tiny, tiny area, one of the poorest in all of Europe. And odd, not just how these users come from the same area. There are only seven cities that have a population between 20,000-100,000 in Kosovo. Anything less than that in this area of the world, and we can positively assume that they most likely don't have running water, yet alone a computer with an Internet connection. So now we have Hevnonen, Hene, Pjetër Bogdani, Ejte, Sintonak.X, Dardanv, Beharprishtina, Hipi Zhdripi, Mig11, Petrit Augustini, and of course who can forget, Ilir_pz, all out of Kosovo.

Admittely, Sintonak.X and Beharprishtina, are not "in" Kosovo, they are in the United States and Switzerland, but then again I can't be blamed for them being incompetent and put themselves in that category. Anyways, so Priština, population estimated at 500,000, has, not one, not two, not three, but a total of four members on Wikipedia(notice how there's no Serbs). Amazing isn't it? So Vancouver, with a population of 2.1 million, basically that of Kosovo, can't have more than one person editing on article without it being suspected that the user is a sockpuppet. Also, Prizren, where Ilir_pz lives, is a mere 61 km from Priština, very close indeed for collaborating with his bretheren.

Distance from Priština to Prizren, Serbia and Montenegro
Distance from Priština to Prizren, Serbia and Montenegro

Winnipeg, has a population of over 700,000, and Brampton has one of 435,000. But since it's counted as being in the Greater Toronto Area, that would make the population 5.2 million. So three users out of a population of nearly 30 million in a first world country, spanning 3360km are accused of being sockpuppets. But then, four users of the same city in Kosovo, that may have one PC per every 1000 homes, are collaborating without incident. Plus another user, within driving distance of the others(or most likely, one other user). The rest of the users don't mention specific locations, but let's assume Priština because that seems to be popular these days, and we could also assume that based on Hipi Zhdripi, Hevnonen, Ejte, abilities of not being able to communicate in English, and having simliar grammar errors that they are the one and the same user. User Hipi Zhdripi is a known sockpuppet ( take a look at User: Zhdripi_Hipi and others). Both Hipi Zhdripi and Ejte can barely communicate in German and English and both have attempted to do so in my talk page. Similar incompetent spelling in two languages by two users in the same area with the same motives?

Unless all Albanians besides Ilir_pz are amazingly incompetent at speaking English, I can't find this random at all but done in a pre-mediated, and collaborated style and may "possibly" involve a larger group, such as the KLA, or even the government of Kosovo, who knows:P. But whoever it is, it's pathetic indeed.

Proof that Kosovo is part of Serbia, even Microsoft says so.:)))) C-c-c-c 19:58, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

I don't believe a word of it. --Telex 00:34, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Noone expected you to believe it, neither do I expect the nationalist user by the name of ChrisO to believe it. But, the bottom line is: A bunch of users from Kosovo are accusing me and two more people who live in 3 different cities arround Canada, of being sockpuppets (not known who is the puppeteer) while there are a bunch of EXTREMELY similar users from tiny Kosovo, and noone dares to suspect anything. ChrisO, whatever you do in this life will haunt you in the next one, I advise that you listen to your heart, instead of Big Brother on TV. -- serbiana - talk 01:14, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
If evidence exists, make a WP:RCU. -- Telex 01:16, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Care to look at the report I initiated based on clear suspicion of further sockpuppets of this user? Would be nice if you do something. Thanks in advance, ilir_pz 00:29, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Should the changes be reverted?

Regards, Ante Perkovic 12:38, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Blank reverting of article Tourism in Croatia

Hi. I see you have done a good work on finding a compromise version of the article Minefields in Croatia. COuld you please help on the article Tourism in Croatia. Some croatian users keep reverting and they do not discuss it on the talk page, which they left once they had no arguments. In any case, I feel a third party might be helpful. Thanks. [edit] Borovo Selo

Thanks for having a go at the article and your bold edits. If you still have stength and will, I would appreciate if you could have a look at Ante Starcevic, another article I have tried to mediate on and requested comments. Regards, Asterion talk to me 19:22, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Chris, you went too far in protecting the Croats. Why are you doing this? This is an encyclopaedia, not a place you can excercise ethnic hate. I know you hate me because I'm a Serb, but one day, you'll get yours, and will be blocked for extremist nationalism on Wikipedia. May God have mercy on your soul. -- serbiana - talk 00:19, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

If that's your response to a requirement that you actually provide a source for your additions - which applies to everyone, Croats, Serbs, Albanians, Eskimos etc - then I think you're editing the wrong encyclopedia project... -- ChrisO 00:21, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Can you please explain why didnt you put the same warning on DrGonzo talk page???
Exactly what I'm talking about. Double standars for Serbs and Croats. And I'm half-half... So, what's left for me? Chris hates Serbs! -- serbiana - talk 00:42, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Has DrGonzo added unsourced material to the article? If he does, please let me know and I'll put the same warning on his talk page. The same rules apply to everybody, as I've made clear on Talk:Borovo Selo killings#Rules of engagement. All I want is for you (and me, and him, and everyone else) to follow Wikipedia's fundamental policies. Cite and verify what you add and we'll all be OK. Oh, and Boris: no personal attacks. Last warning. -- ChrisO 00:44, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Yes, in fact he did. He put the unsourced claim about reasons for republics secession, which are in fact false. If you want to help the article, you should not opress one side, as you appear to do by your selectivness and POV bias. Nelodkan 00:56, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
OK, please explain to me how is my opinion that you hate Serbs a personal attack? Are you gonna block me again for making you cry? -- serbiana - talk 00:54, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
You know perfectly well what it is. -- ChrisO 01:14, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bolding in the disambiguation page entries

Hi, can you take a look at the Macedonia page? As I know, we shouldn't use bolding in the entries according to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages) - Individual entries section, but some users are trying again to emphasize the provisional reference (I think we had a similar situation in the past?) MatriX 10:37, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

MatriX, you are mising the point. It says the links should not be bolded (e.g. Republic of Macedonia). I asked you to see Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Article titles. --Telex 10:40, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Operation Horseshoe

So you are saying I should have put a link directly in the article to the source I used rather than simply list it as a reference at the bottom?

The way the article reads, as currently structured gives the impression that there must have been an "operation horseshoe" after all, because of Patrick Ball's report. This I thought needed addressing. -- Phil 19:03, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Well, there were two issues. First, it wasn't clear that your addition was related to the link that you added - it needed to be cited properly. But second and more fundamentally, the page that you linked to wasn't an admissible source under our reliable sources policy, which explicitly rules out personal essays of this sort. If you can find a reputable source to support your case then please do add it, but please make sure that it meets our criteria for inclusion. -- ChrisO 19:14, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Problems with User:EurowikiJ

Hi. I have recently asked for your help on the page Tourism in Croatia, but I am not sure if you have not seen my post, do not have time/interest in helping in this case, as I see you did in case of minefields article.

Unlike some other croatian users who disucss and follow the rule that a sourced, relevant material is not removed, like user Zmaj's recent edits, EurowikiJ has been very disruptive (and on many other articles it seems) - he does not discuss, reverts and blanks sourced material with no discussion at all, even removes warnings from his talk page.

I understand you as a person who is outside of the region, and who acts in neutral way, insisting on rules - like keeping the well sourced material etc. You have helped on other articles, and you say on your talk page that you want to contribute to improving ex-Yugoslavia related pages. This is why I believe you will help; also you said that recently:

:It's also unfortunate that his misconduct has been excused and abetted by other users, apparently in the mistaken belief that his bad editing is excusable if he's on the "right side." [edit] Vandal Burgas00, and rouge admin InShaneee

InShaneee put up a warning about personal attacks on my talk page, because of this comment. Just before that, I gave him a heads up about a vandal, Burgas00 who made personal attacks on another user here , and also here. He was warned twice, by User: Bormalagurski, here, and by me also.

Afterwards, he vandalized my user page, here, and here. It goes something like this: I personally also suspect that this user was sold to his parents by gypsies. This user may also have suffered sexual abuse from his Kosovar-Albanian brothers at a very young age. If this can constitute as a personal attack, and that can't, well then....

I came to admin InShaneee for help, asking him to block this user. He hasn't responded, and only came to user page to give me a warning about the "personal attack" I made, completely ignoring what I told him. Please see to it that Burgas00 is blocked, and please review the actions of InShaneee, because he is obviously not neutral. C-c-c-c 19:37, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for blocking the vandal. Can I remove this or no? C-c-c-c 23:28, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Upfront Rewards

Hi. I just noticed you brought the OITC info back from the grave. (See my talk page.) Perhaps you're inclined to help with Upfront Rewards. I've tried hard to be conciliatory-see the edit history. An (improperly run) AfD has already occurred (Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Upfront_Rewards). Email me if you'd prefer to discuss offline or off-record. If you don't want to help, please just delete this. Elvey 17:28, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I'll follow your advice; it all seems reasonable. If you could email me the article history, that would be appreciated; most importantly, I don't have copies of the old references that were in the article prior to the first deletion... even my notes on my talk page were deleted, so I don't have a record of the link to the specific version I need and requested anymore.
Didn't get any email. Tried anyway and got whacked and I can't tell why ('undisputed prod' needs much more explanation to make sense). Reply here, pls.

[edit] Problems at article Fair Game (Scientology)

Thanks to you and user BTfromLA the article Suppressive Person got cleaned up and at present there is a very good balance and the information is forwarded in a neutral way. But it appears that another edit war has started with article Fair Game (scientology). User Vivaldi started adding excessive referencing and even reintroduced improper reference sources into the article when I just had removed them. I suggested to discuss the changes, but we get revert after revert. The same users amongst other Wikipediatrix and Futurix are also present here. See Talk:Fair Game (Scientology) discussion #22 & 23.

Please could you have a look at it! --Olberon 06:18, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

You're right about the xenu.net reference - I've left a note on the article's talk page. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. -- ChrisO 07:30, 6 June 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for doing so. I exchanged these particular 2 xenu.net linking with the 'Foster Report' which also presents a full copy of HCO PL Cancellation of Fair Game. I am once again opposed by user Wikipediatrix and Futurix who choose to revert. I did refer to your notice but it is ignored by the both of them. [edit] Castel Gandolfo entry

Hello Chris O, Love your image of Mt Etna - fantastic! Sure looks like a bulge on the side to me! *0*

Anyway, there is an entry in Wikipedia here, for Castel Gandolfo, which had had several pictures at one time. There are many frames, some with captions (titles), but the pictures have since been removed.

(sadly...) The one with Prez Bush and Mrs in black(?!) is still there. *_*

Since you are an administrator, would you kindly see what you can resurrect, when you have some spare time, please? Would have loved to be able to view the images.

Many thanks, Nanette <><

Salutes, Chris.

I've done some changes/additions to Operation Medak Pocket article.

[edit] User Wikipediatrix and L. Ron Hubbard as 'SF(?) writer'

Related discussion (and info) is found here (discussion #22):

I wish to make a notice about user Wikipediatrix. I find that this person is often obstructing, rude in her approach and provoking and when asked to forward her arguments and join the discussion she does not do that but instead gives a 'general comment' to justify the revert or other. She was informed about the author status of L. Ron Hubbard and she was involved in reverting my early edits concerning that (see earlier linked discussion). And here again she is reverting with the comment "Olberon's latest act of needless disruption over minutia". Then when I revert an anonymous user only 5 minutes later supports her. She also supported the dubious user Monkeypower User_talk:Monkeypower, there are indications that this would be a sockpuppet. I think a case could be put together and held against her for her actions which for the larger part are sufficiently documented on either the Scientology related 'discussion' pages and her comments on the 'history of edits' pages (amongst other Suppressive Person & Fair Game). She especially has pushed very hard her 'consensus' on the Suppressive Person article, she lost the argument. I personally question if she should be allowed to edit any of the Scientology related pages. If what I write here is somehow out of place or inappropriate, then I humbly apologize. I am fairly familiar with Wiki after the couple of weeks since I got involved, but I am still finding out about how things work. Anyway, I felt the urge to write the above as you have been involved with rewriting the Suppressive person article.--Olberon 09:36, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Even if what Olberon says is true - and most of it isn't - his own behavior eclipses mine drastically in the obnoxiousness department. I think the tone and logic (or lack thereof) in his post here speaks for itself. I also found his rant on Davidstrauss' talk page most edifying. wikipediatrix 15:13, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Chris, please take a look at this. I have told him that I want no further communication with him because discussions are usually fruitless. [edit] Banning sock puppets

Hi! I am contacting you because an admin is needed to enforce the ban on three Purger's sock puppets identified by WP:RFCU. This page has the request with explanation and the Checkuser's confirmation: Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Purger. The confirmed sock puppets are 64.18.16.251, Romaine and Oesterling. I do not know what should be done about those numerous 4.x.x.x addresses - maybe Purger should be warned that he could be banned too? --Zmaj 08:38, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Please, can you tell me whether you will ban them? If you have other work and cannot get involved in this, I understand. I need to know, however, so I can contact other administrators if you cannot help. --Zmaj 06:49, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
I would like you to keep an eye on User:Medule too. He seems to be restarting the mines issue on Plitvice Lakes which I defused a few months back by creating Plitvice Lakes (municipality). Regards, E Asterion u talking to me? 06:58, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay in replying - I'm having major connectivity problems at the moment. I've blocked the named sockpuppets indefinitely and Purger for one month. If there's a repeat incident or if he tries to evade his block, please let me know. -- ChrisO 07:23, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
Thank you. Just one more thing: 64.18.16.251 should be blocked too. He wrote on his user page: This IP address is not a single user address - rather a proxy server IP address used by many people. Do not fall for his tricks. Firstly, he was identified as Purger's sock puppet by CheckUser. Secondly, a simple review of his contributions shows it is just one user with the same agenda as Purger. --Zmaj 09:57, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
I blocked 64.18.16.251 indefinetly because it seems to be used for sockpuppetry of Purger exclusively. If you think the IP shouldn't be blocked indefinetly, please do unblock him, but contact me so I can wikistalk on him. --Dijxtra 07:34, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi,

Just few days ago, we discovered that user:Purger had quite ana arsenal of sock-puppets, and now he is trying to hide that fact.

See this: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Oesterling&diff=next&oldid=58738055

Could you please try to talk to him and bring him to reason? I could try myself, but he doesn't really react well to people from Croatia.

[edit] Erroneous warnings

I would appreciate it if you did not place fallacious warnings on my talk page. I provided adequate reasoning for the removal of the section on the article's talk page. If you want to argue your point of why it should stay that is fine, but do not pretend that you were somehow removing vandalism. [edit] Bantustan

Thanks for your message, Chris. I responded at the article's talk page where this discussion belongs. ←Humus sapiens ну? 02:23, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

It seems that we interpret the policy differently. As I read it, the NPOV "... requires that, where there are or have been conflicting views, these should be presented fairly, but not asserted. All significant points of view are presented..." Surely Dennis Ross is a significant figure enough in this matter, so why are you trying to present this as if I assert my own opinion? Propagandistic accusations should be followed by refutations, especially coming from mainstream reputable source. Cheers. ←Humus sapiens ну? 08:44, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda

172 suggested your name as a knowledgable person who may be interested in reviewing the rewrite I did on Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda and helping to moderate the controversy. This is a controversial article that has been the subject of many edit wars. Recently translated Operation Iraqi Freedom documents have made the non-official view that Saddam and Osama did have a cooperative relationship much more persuasive. In fact, former Democrat Senator and 9/11 Commissioner Bob Kerrey now believes they did cooperate, showing this is a tenable position. The older version of the article is clearly not NPOV as it treated the non-official version as if its adherents were members of the flat earth society. I believe the rewrite is much more readable now and the narrative is more connected. I'm certain it has it faults but it seems to be a better foundation to work from than the older version. Please take a look and make any comments you like on the Talk page. Thanks! RonCram 05:46, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Civil Wars

Thanks for protecting it from User:Kubura. P. S. User:Mir Harven is a harsh Croatian nationalist - he himself admits that. He admits that he is polarized and as it seemly, in many cases goes over the linke (like User:Nikola Smolenski), however, he is well-scholared and very intelligent, many of his words (no matter that sometimes reach the deepest of the stubborness) "holding the water" to say. --HolyRomanEmperor 13:07, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Well, ChrisO, you're the admin. That doesn't make your claims to be the truthful ones. Saying that Serbia's expansionist wars on the territory of former Yugoslav republics were "civil wars" is an heavy insult in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Hercegovina (in Federation), in Kosovo and Macedonia. At least, it is a sick joke. Joke that isn't funny. Have that in mind if you ever visit those countries, or even go to vacation there. Waiters and all other persons you get in talk won't have any courtesy any more towards you.
Put it this way: what is the civil war? A war where two or more parties fight to get the rule over one country which all combatants found as theirs. Not where one or more sides wants to take the territory of the other side, which doesn't want to be the part of certain country. Serbia attacked Croatia, and Bosnia and Hercegovina using local Serbs as fifth column. Croatia fought to defend its independence, while Serbia wanted to forcefully keep the territory of Croatia (not the Croats) in dissoluting country, "Yugoslavia" (see The Opinions of the Badinter Arbitration Committee); in reality, real Yugoslavia was no more - it was just an other name for Greater Serbia.), in fact annexing it to Greater Serbia. Kubura 14:09, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kosovo

Dear Chris, thank you for stating your ideas on the Kosovo introduction. Unfortunately, I have been unsuccesful in trying no negotiate a compromise since the article was protected. I am afraid, however, that your suggestion might not be accepted by some other people involved. What, in your opinion, would be the best way to go if that happens? Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 19:38, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

You mean Ilir pz, I assume. I think it's clear that he has a strong POV on the subject; if we can't get him to agree, I think we will simply have to declare that a majority exists for the most recent proposal and take it from there. We can't have a situation where one problem user holds up progress on the entire article. -- ChrisO 20:03, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
That is the main person involved yes. There were others, but most made only a few comments or even got permanently blocked in the recent weeks (mainly Serbian POV though). I asked Iliz to comment on the last proposal today, so I suggest we at least give him some time to reply. If necessary, however, can I ask you to intervene and declare a majority on the talk page? I have been involved in this discussion too long now to be considered objective I am afraid. Cpt. Morgan (Reinoutr) 21:04, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reason for stubbing

Personal decision, pending a review of the query. - Amgine 07:24, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Since the Foundation's lawyers are now apparently involved, I think that's a bad move on your part - it could be seen as compromising the Foundation's position. Please reverse the stubbing until the lawyers have had their say. -- ChrisO 07:57, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
In this particular case it is best to stub for at least the next hours until the lawyers get to the office. At which point I will be calling them. - Amgine 07:59, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
In this particular case it would have been prudent not to touch the article at all until the lawyers have had a look. Changing it one way or the other is a potentially prejudicial act. The thing to do is to get legal advice first and then act. Doing it the other way round can cause all kinds of complications. However, it's done now, so let's see what the lawyers have to say. Grateful if you could keep me informed. -- ChrisO 08:07, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
On this we must disagree. But yes, we shall see. - Amgine 18:53, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] unnecessary mediation at Broken Flowers?

Chris, I'm not knowledgeable about mediation, arbitration, and such things, but it seems to me that the current mediation at Broken Flowers is unnecessary, considering that it's between an anonymous IP who keeps inserting his own private original research essay into the article (even after being told not to by the mediator) and another editor simply trying to revert it. The IP also has posted direct personal insults to the other editor on the talk page and in his edit summaries. It seems to me that this is not something that deserves mediation, it just needs an admin to nip it in the bud. Can you take a look? wikipediatrix 11:38, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sussexman ban

You were wrong to ban User:Sussexman (who is not Lauder-Frost). Sussexman has valiantly defended the vitriolic attacks made by a very small group upon someone he knew years ago, liked, and felt a great injustice was being done to. He was quite right to tell people crossing legal boundaries that they were doing this and quite right to tell people that by doing so they would soon find out the consequences. (Surely that is normal-speak?) That is not a legal threat and banning everyone who points out simple facts is not the way forward for Wikipedia which should not be above UK law if it wishes to be received on-line here. The suggestion which I see has been added that he somehow has something to do with sending solicitor's letters is just preposterous. He has done sterling work on Wikipedia and until the article page of his old political chum had been attacked he virtually had never done anything to it. I think you are wrong. 81.131.24.254 17:50, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

I didn't ban Sussexman; I simply put the banned user template on his user page. The ban was quite correct, by the way, as Sussexman's comments clearly were an implicit legal threat. Wikipedia:No legal threats states the rationale for banning. As for "crossing legal boundaries", I suggest that you have a look at my most recent comments under Talk:Gregory Lauder-Frost#Caving. The law does seem to carve out an exemption for educational publications, which Wikipedia most definitely is. -- ChrisO 18:12, 23 June 2006 (UTC).

No. Not at all. Wikipedia ia essentially a private project. I would argue that a vast amount of disinformation is in Wikipedia and although it is argued that it can be re-edited that is just reverted in no time by those who have an objective. Unless one has hours on end daily it is impossible to correct Wikipedia for accuracy. It is not therefore educational in the academic sense, it is just an information source. There is a difference. [edit] Adjara problem

Hi ChrisO, really that article is problematic it's content is continuously moved in that 2 name. [edit] Old disagreements... ;-)

Hi Chris, I've just seen the message you've left on my talk page: don't worry, whatever differences we may have, it's time we buried the hatchet. Nonetheless, please stick to using correct English in future... --RichardHarrold 09:19, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Richard, "correct" English doesn't automatically mean British English. There are actually far more speakers of American English than British English. I've move-protected train station until people can agree on a name - agreement is always preferable in such situations. -- ChrisO 09:31, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Listen, Chris, AmE was only invented by the first independent Americans because they felt the need to be different from the English. As for where you found the info that you use to make the assertion that AmE is spoken more widely than British English, I shudder to think. Wherever it is, it's WRONG. In any case, there are far fewer railway stations and railway lines per square mile or per million people in America than any other inhabited continent. --RichardHarrold 10:19, June 24, 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ferick and Kosovo

I find it amazing that you say there is been agreement about the Kosovo article. Once again, it seems hard to get in your head but there has been no agreement on the Kosovo page. What part of this you don’t understand? You writing a paragraph and having one party agree with it is not an agreement. Do we need to redefine the word agreement as well? Don’t try to force things through just because you are an administrator. Believe me, you will not succeed. I find it amazing, once again, that you tell the above user (unrelated article) that “agreement is always preferable”. Perhaps agreement in wikipedia means toeing the line of you and your buddies?Ferick 13:04, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Ferick, aside your provocative "contributions" directed against several users (i.e. User:C-c-c-c), I cannot say you have had any input on the debate (that has been going on for nearly a month). Trust me, the last thing wikipedia needs is a continuation of the Balkan wars and someone butting in to cause trouble and push their own POV. You are failing to respect a general consensus that was very hard to achieve. Do NOT start any more edit wars. (I apologise for the uninvited comment, ChrisO). Regards, --E Asterion u talking to me? 13:20, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Chris, the Turkish links could be revived using Archive.org. I am about to go offline for today, if you have the chance you may want to consider doing this, instead removing them altogether. Thanks, --E Asterion u talking to me? 14:56, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

What kind of nonsense is this: “if you continue to violate Wikipedia's NPOV policy by adding commentary and your personal analysis into articles, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia”? What personal analysis are you talking about? And even if that were the case, which is not, you would be the first one deserving of this punishment.Ferick 20:48, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

ChrisO, looking at Ferick's recent contribution history, you can only get the idea that his only purpose in wikipedia is to whitewash or remove anything that seems to violate his own vision of things. He know perfectly well what NPOV and OWN mean but insists on carrying on with this behaviour. I think I explained you before that this simply leads to constant clashes with other editors (i.e. Bormalagurski) and unnecessary edit wars. I find this very disruptive. I am personaly inclined to wait and see but I understand not everyone has got the same level of patience. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Hello, could you please give an explanaition why this image is public domain? I was going to delete it (because it's been moved to Commons), but I don't feel safe doing it because of lack of copyright information. Conscious 16:42, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you. Conscious 20:31, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] John R. Pinniger

I've moved to withrdraw my AFD on John R. Pinniger as per your remarks. Could you integrate what you found in The Times into the article so we can have an assertion of notability? Thanks. Homey 18:47, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] MBE medal
