Chroniton
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A chroniton (also spelled chronoton) is a fictional elementary particle in some works of science fiction.
This particle is used in the Star Trek franchise whenever the plot includes something about time travel. The particle can be used for many things including time travel and weapons. In Star Trek: Voyager, chronitons were heavily used throughout the many seasons for both offensive and defensive reasons.
The particle is used as technobabble in Futurama, where it has the ability to revert someone's body to a more youthful state or progres them in age. More ominously, an accident with chronitons threatens the stability of the entire universe as time "skips" ahead by brief intervals with people having no memories of the intervening, "skipped" time. Bender describes them as "those particles that destroyed a civilization", possibly a reference to the Star Trek: Voyager episode Year of Hell part 2, in which just that occurs (there are many Star Trek references on the show).
Chronitons were also mentioned in the cartoon network show Teen Titans when the villain Slade threatened to use a chroniton detonator within the city. Supposedly, this device destroys all the chronitons in a given area hence stopping that areas progression through time literally stopping time forever.
In Pardus, Chronoton collection is a skill that allows a user to learn a skill that allows them to build timebombs that freeze another player to the spot. There is also suggestion for a skill to protect yourself using chronotons.
In quantum physics, a chronon is a proposed quantum of time.
