[edit] Personal Information
Christoph Schneider was born on May 11, 1966 in Berlin, East Germany. Schneider was the eldest of seven children in his family, which consisted of a brother and five sisters. Schneider started playing music in school, where he played trumpet. In 1980, when Christoph was 14, his brother gave him a drum made out of aluminum cans. This sparked his interest in drums, and helped him pursue his dream of being a musician. When he was 16, Christoph was out of High School, and started to work as a telecommunication assistant. He bought his first pair of drums from the money he saved working in the telecommunication industry, which he commented were of very poor quality, and needed to be repaired constantly. In 1984, he entered the East German Military, and he is the only group member in Rammstein to serve in the military.
In 1985 he quit his telecommunication job, to further chase his dream, and try to get into a University to study music. He tried twice, but failed to get into the university.
His father did not approve of him learning drums, and he wanted Christoph to learn the trumpet. In 1985-1986, Doom tried to get into many bands, to play drums and further pursue his dream. At age 24, he was in his first band, Die Firma, and other less popular bands. In 1994, he joined a band which consisted of Till Lindemann, Richard Kruspe, Oliver Riedel and formed the early version of Rammstein. They entered the Berlin Senate Metro beat contest, and won a prize that allowed them to profesionally record a demo with four tracks. Doom's former band, Feeling B, provided two other present members of Rammstein, Paul Landers and keyboardist Christian Lorenz.
Doom has been married, and is currently remarried to Regina Gizatulina. There is some speculation as to whether he has a child, but it is widely believed that he does not. Little else is known of his present private life, as he is a very confidential person.
