[edit] Plot
At Sandy's treedome, Sandy is putting up Christmas lights. SpongeBob mistakes it for a fire, and throws water onto it. Sandy asks him what he was doing, and SpongeBob replies he believed there was a fire.
Sandy tells SpongeBob about Christmas, and Spongebob in turn tells everyone else. Everyone puts their Christmas wish into a bottle, and each is then shot up to the surface so Santa can read it. Squidward does not believe in Santa, and does not write a message.
Santa, however, doesn't come. Everyone is confused and SpongeBob becomes depressed. He gives Squidward a present (a clarinet made out of driftwood with his name engraved on it, that pops out an animatronic band when a button is pushed), who feels sorry for SpongeBob. Squidward dresses up as Santa, and starts giving out his possessions to everybody. He receives a message from Santa telling him that he's been a "good boy".
[edit] Cultural References
- The picture of Santa SpongeBob shows to Mr. Krabs, Patrick, and Squidward is the official Santa for Coke.
- The little girl's wish for front teeth is a reference on Tiny Tim |Tiny Tim's "All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth".
- The eggs Patchy was given are the same eggs Yoshi uses in Yoshi's Island.
- The Santa Claus outfit that Squidward wore is the same thing as the Grinch wore with the no pants part. The other part of the outfit is the long white beard is the exact same as the one Jack used on his Santa Claus outfit.
- SpongeBob tells stories of Christmas and Santa Claus, and bringing Christmas to Bikini Bottom, just like Jack did in The Nightmare Before Christmas.
[edit] Trivia/Goofs
- The wishes of some citizens are as follows: SpongeBob wished for Santa to visit Bikini Bottom. Mr. Krabs wished for a pony with saddlebags full of money. Patrick wished for another piece of paper (as he kept ripping the paper SpongeBob gave him to write his letter). A female fish wish for a new hairstyle. A kid fish wished for front teeth. An elderly fish wished for a glass of water for his teeth.
- Just like the other holiday specials, this episode only tends to air on TV in the United States and Australia on the holiday the episode takes place in.
- During the song, when Spongebob and Patrick decorate Squidward's house, and Squidward says to take it off immediately, SpongeBob's pineapple is not visible, even though it is right next to Squidward's house.
- During the December 4, 2006 showing of "Christmas Who", the closed caption text reads "Insert Sample Caption Text Here" during the beginning of the show.
- On the Season Two DVD, Patchy's line at the begining of Act II, "It's about time you got back! Now I can finish me story." is cut because in the original show, after the commericals have played, he had told that phrase. In the DVD, they cut it off because it was useless to have that there, as there are no commericals on DVD's, are there?
- The picture that Squidward takes shows up in "The Secret Box".
- If all episodes were in chronological order, this would be the 25th episode. Christmas is on December 25th.
- This episode, similar to SpongeBob B.C., in the sense that it had different background music in the end credits.
- In a scene where Squidward (In a Santa suit) is talking to Spongebob, his tentacles are only outlines.
- The title is probaly a parody to Doctor Who.
- This is the only double-length holiday episode.
- On the episode santa is seen two times one on a picture and one in real life.
