Christian Ehrhoff

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Christian Ehrhoff (born July 6, 1982 in Moers, West Germany) is a NHL player currently playing defense for the San Jose Sharks. He was drafted 106th overall in the 4th round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Sharks. He played in Germany until the fall of 2003, and came onto the Sharks without starting in the minor leagues first. He spent the end of the 2003-2004 season and all of the locked-out 2004-2005 season with the Sharks' minor league affiliate, the Cleveland Barons. He returned to the Sharks' roster for the 2005-2006 season. He was selected for the German ice hockey team for the 2006 Olympics. He has played for Germany in the 2004 and 2005 World Championships as well as in numerous tournaments like the Deutschland Cup.

An extremely good skater, Ehrhoff, who according to TSN "owns a very projectable frame, excellent offensive potential, and sound hockey sense," can "quarterback the power play with aplomb". After going through many growing pains, Ehrhoff has improved tremendously during the second half of the 2005-2006 season by increasing his muscle mass and adjusting to the speed of the NHL game. He is showing the signs of developing into a quality second-pairing offensive defenseman.

Ehrhoff is in the first year of a two-year contract worth US$1.7 million. He will get paid US$800,000 for the 2006-07 season and US$900,000 for the 2007-08 season. This contract will expire in July 2008, making Ehrhoff a restricted free agent.
