Christian Bauer

Christian Bauer (Born November 4, 1966 in Innsbruck, Austria) is an art project manager and a former pioneer and entrepreneur in the field of 3D computer graphics and New Media. Bauer works for multimedia artist André Heller.

Bauer works for multimedia artist André Heller in Hellers Vienna-based company Artevent, where Bauer headed up the successful 'Presentation of the Germany bid for the 2006 FIFA World Cup' project, resurrecting the world's largest sports event for Germany. Bauer has been involved in the management of cultural projects for Artevent since 1998, he is co-inventor of the official Artistic and Cultural Programme for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, co-designed and managed projects such as the 'Football Globe - 2006 FIFA World Cup', the 'Football Globe Germany', the 'Poetry Machine', based on an idea and co-produced by poet and author Hans Magnus Enzensberger, as well as other projects.

Bauer studied at the Higher Technical Institute for Communications Engineering and Electronics in Innsbruck. He also studied Economics at the University of Innsbruck, though uncompleted.

Bauer teaches at the University of Innsbruck (at the Urban Planning and Regional Planning Institute and at the Institute for Experimental Architecture); He works as a technology consultant to the European Commission. As an early pioneer and entrepreneur in the fields of 3D computer graphics and Virtual Reality, Bauer initiated the 1993 'Virtual Reality Vienna Conference', the first European conference on this subject and started also the parallel 'Virtual Polis 1.0' event, organised with Prof. Carl Eugene Loeffler (Carnegie Mellon University), which demonstrated the first worldwide 3D Virtual Community. Bauer is an honoured 'Oldtimer' at the oldest (established 1985) 2D online community The Well (chris@well.com) and received a Recognition of Service Award from the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).

Bauer is father of three children. He is living in Salzburg and Vienna.
