Christ Carrying the Cross

Christ Carrying the Cross is a painting by Leonardo da Vinci, c. 1500

Painted in oil on poplar panel, the painting was Leonardo's only portrayal of the Passion of the Christ. The central figures in this painting were used in the abandoned fresco painting Battle of Anghiari in 1505.

This painting was authenticated by Carlo Pedretti knowned worldwide as the foremost Leonardo expert by the detailed distinguishable left handed under drawing, the self portriat of Leonardo as the central attacker, and the numerous fingerprints which are embedded in surface paint of the painting as Leonardo's own fingerprints.

The painting is currently in a private collection belonging to San Francisco/Las Vegas billionaire Luke Brugnara.
