Chris Townsley
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chris Townsley (born March 4, 1985) is a Scottish footballer who plays as a defender. He has played for Alloa Athletic since 2004.
As a player in the Youth ranks at the team, Townsley's debut for the club came in a Scottish Cup victory against Elgin City during the 2004/05 season. Townsley became a regular starter in defence in the same year, scoring his first goal in November against Ayr United. Thanks to a late surge, Alloa were to avoid relegation that season, while Townsley put in some good displays in the FA Cup which secured his place in the side for the following year.
Once again Townsley featured heavily during 2005/06, despite suffering from further lapses in his disciplinary record which saw him receive his first sending off against Peterhead on Christmas Eve 2005, and, despite Alloa forcing a fourth round replay against Hamilton Academical, the team were struggling with relegation all season and only made the cut thanks to a 5-2 aggregate win in the final.
Townsley has been out of action since falling out of favour with a poor showing in a 4-0 defeat against Hearts in the League Cup, which Alloa lost 4-0 at home and in which Townsley was sent off, while also requiring surgery on some damaged tissue in his knee.[1]
