Chris Tomlinson

Christopher Tomlinson (born: September 15, 1981 in Middlesbrough, England) is an athlete who specialises in the long jump.

Chris began competing for Middlesbrough AC (formerly Mandale Harriers and Middlesbrough and Cleveland AC) at the age of 10, mostly over 100m and 200m. He attended Nunthorpe Secondary School and to this day holds many of its year group records for triple and long jump. However in his early teens Chris decided to concentrate on long jump. His major breakthrough came in 2002 when, just three months after breaking both wrists in a freak weight-training accident, he jumped 8.27 m to break the British record that had been held by Lynn Davies for 34 years.

Chris has never really been able to find any consistency to go with his raw talent but in the build up to the 2004 Summer Olympics he was ranked number 9 in the world for his event. Chris has excellent speed down the runway, but has struggled in international meets to get the length of his run-up right.

Chris has won seven national titles in various age groups, including one for the triple jump indoors for under 20's in 2000.
