Chris Phillips (born March 9, 1978 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada) is a Canadian professional hockey player. He has been a member of the National Hockey League's Ottawa Senators for his entire career, which began with the 1998-99 season. He is regarded as a steady, stay-at-home blueline presence and a leader on and off the ice. The Senators drafted him first overall in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. In the 2006-07 season, due to the loss of the current Boston Bruin Zdeno Chara, he is one of the Senators' alternate captains, along with fellow defenceman Wade Redden. He is usually paired up with either Anton Volchenkov or Andrej Meszaros. This year, he helped the team in scoring production, reaching his career high of 8 on February 14 against the Florida Panthers.
Phillips is the nephew of Edmonton Oilers radio broadcaster Rod Phillips.[citation needed]
